Who we help on the Wirral
The Wirral is a mix of busy town centres, quiet villages and a lot of homes. That shapes the work we do for people there. Many Wirral residents work across the river in Liverpool and run something on the side. Others are full-time trades, small shops or landlords letting a house or two.
- Builders and trades paid under CIS, who often have tax deducted that they can claim back. See our page for builders and CIS.
- Landlords letting houses and flats around Birkenhead, Wallasey and beyond. See our page for landlords.
- Sole traders such as hairdressers, cleaners, tutors and mobile mechanics. See our page for the self-employed.
- Small limited companies that want their accounts and tax handled properly.
If you work across the river in a salaried job and earn extra from a side business or a rented property, you may need a tax return even though PAYE covers your wages. Side income over £1,000 a year usually needs reporting. We include your employment income in the return so your other income is taxed at the right rate, and we check whether payments on account apply.
Wirral trades often work on jobs on both sides of the Mersey, for several contractors at once. Each contractor sends a separate CIS statement, and it is easy for one to go missing. We keep track of them all through the year, so the refund on your return is complete.
Do you need an accountant based on the Wirral?
Not necessarily. Most of what an accountant does today happens online: you share records, we prepare the figures, and returns are filed electronically with HMRC and Companies House. What matters most is being able to reach the person doing the work.
We are a two-person practice led by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant, so you speak to the person who knows your file. Our only office is at 19 Galloway Street, Liverpool L7 6PD. If you would rather meet face to face, you can visit us by appointment. If you would rather not make the trip, we can work by phone, WhatsApp, video and email instead, and that works just as well.
Accountancy services for Wirral clients
With so many trades, landlords and small firms on the peninsula, these services are usually the most relevant:
- CIS tax refunds for subcontractors who have had 20% or 30% taken off their labour.
- Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders, landlords and anyone with untaxed income. The 2025/26 online return is due by 31 January 2027.
- Making Tax Digital for Income Tax for sole traders and landlords whose qualifying income is over £50,000 from April 2026, or over £30,000 from April 2027.
- Limited company accounts and corporation tax for small companies.
- Late tax returns and penalty appeals if you have fallen behind.
Landlords with rental property on the Wirral should read our landlord tax return guide, which explains the mortgage interest rules and what you can claim.
What does a Wirral accountant cost with us?
Wirral clients pay the same fixed monthly fees as everyone else. Self-employed people and landlords start from £99 a month and limited companies from £150 a month. After a free 20-minute chat, we send your exact price in writing within one working day, and it stays fixed for 12 months unless your business changes. See our fees page.
Already have an accountant? Switching is simple and can happen at any time of year. We contact your old accountant, collect your records and register with HMRC. You sign one form. When you are ready, send us an enquiry.
Common questions
Do you have an office on the Wirral?
No. Our only office is at 19 Galloway Street in Liverpool. Wirral clients can visit by appointment, or work with us by phone, WhatsApp, video and email.
Do Wirral clients pay more?
No. Our fixed fees are the same wherever you are, starting from £99 a month for the self-employed and landlords.
Can you help a Wirral subcontractor claim a CIS refund?
Yes. We collect your CIS statements, add up your expenses and file your Self Assessment return so any overpaid tax is repaid to you.
I live on the Wirral but my business is in Liverpool. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Where you live and where you work make no difference to how we look after you.
