Our work

What the job actually looks like

Four examples of the kind of problem that comes through the door, and what we do about it.

In detail

A typical job, start to finish

It is nearly always the same story. Something has been quietly wrong for a while and nobody has gone back to check.

Building

A builder who never got his tax back

The situation
A groundworker had tax taken off every invoice for years. His tax returns were being filed, but they never claimed that tax back properly.
What we did
We went back through his statements, agreed the figures with HMRC, corrected the returns that could still be changed, and set up a simple monthly record so it is picked up automatically from now on.
The outcome
He got the overpaid tax back, and his return now claims it every year. Instead of a bill each January, he gets a refund.

An online seller going through VAT options with their accountant
Online sellingCase Study

An online seller on the wrong VAT scheme for three years

We worked out what the last three years would have cost on each scheme, moved them to the one that fitted, and rebuilt the bookkeeping so marketplace fees and payouts match up on their own.

Their VAT now reflects how the business actually trades, and the checking that used to take a weekend every quarter takes minutes.

A landlord and accountant working out whether to use a company
PropertyCase Study

A landlord who nearly moved everything into a company

We worked out the full cost of moving them: the tax on the transfer, the stamp duty, the new mortgages and the ongoing cost of taking money back out. Then we set it against simply keeping them.

For some of the properties it was clearly worth it. For the rest it clearly was not. They moved the ones that made sense and kept the others.

A business owner going through monthly figures and a cash forecast
ConsultancyCase Study

A consultancy that was busy but always short of cash

We put in a monthly report, a rolling 13-week cash forecast and a list of who owed them money, then met every three months to work through pricing, payment terms and when to take money out.

They now know their cash position thirteen weeks ahead instead of at the end of the month, and price jobs using real numbers rather than a gut feeling.

How it starts

Every one of these started with a 20-minute call

No sales pitch, no obligation. Most of the value comes from someone finally asking the right question.

  1. A first phone call with a new client01

    A free 20-minute chat

Tell us what you do and what you need. No charge, no pressure and no sales pitch.

  2. A written price being prepared for a new client02

    A price in writing

Within one working day you get one monthly price and a list of exactly what it covers.

  3. Client records being collected when changing accountant03

    We do the moving

We write to your old accountant, collect your paperwork and register with HMRC. You sign one form.

  4. The month-to-month routine of bookkeeping and filing04

    You stop worrying about it

We remind you before every deadline and file early. You hear from us before you hear from HMRC.
